At our Ottawa clinics, Active Release Technique therapy is used in the treatment of injuries and lingering conditions that generally involve soft tissues, including muscles, connective tissue such as tendons and ligaments, nerves and fascia. The treatment was specifically designed and developed to treat the debilitating effects of scarring to the soft tissue.
When the soft tissues are injured – and that can happen via an injury or may be due to repetitive motion and over-use – as the body heals, it develops scar tissue over the affected area, just as it does when the skin is broken by a cut or other trauma. Scarring develops in density according to the severity of the injury in question and also over time with repeated injuries. The body cannot rid itself of the scarred tissue, and in some cases, it can become so dense that it hinders mobility, results in reduced muscle strength and causes chronic pain.
